Editing
Due to my training in different areas of the editorial world, I’m able to offer you a range of services in the Book Editing Process, Readings (Alpha, Beta and Sensitive), and Translations.
We all have suffered with the COVID-19 crisis, that’s why I’ve implemented a series of discounts to help the authors with their budgets. Until August, I will keep a 25% discount in all of my services!
If your manuscript is not finished yet and you want to grab the current discount, you can still book your place for when you’ve finished with your writing!
LEVELS OF EDITING
EDITORIAL ASSESSMENT (BETA READING ON EDITORIAL STEROIDS)
An editorial assessment is an overview made by a professional editor. Here, the editor gives your manuscript thoughtful, in-depth feedback concerning elements such as plot, characterization, structure, consistency, and style.
A beta-reader gives you input in your finished-up manuscript, so you will be able to make the appropriate changes before releasing it to the world.
I decided to join these services because, as an editor, it is complicated to overview the book with only a reader’s perspective. I will always notice the little details that most readers don’t.
What can you expect from a Beta-Reading/Editorial Assessment?
A Full Story Analysis, which includes:
- Arcs,
- Plot holes,
- Pace,
- Character Development,
- Removal of Clichés,
- Help with POV issues,
- Consistency,
- Style,
- Structure,
- SUGGESTIONS ABOUT HOW TO FIX WHAT IS NOT WORKING.
Be aware that I give VERY HONEST FEEDBACK. I’m always polite about it, but I’m not going to sugarcoat if there is an issue with the story. If something doesn’t make sense with the plotlines, if something is unreal in the dynamic of the characters, if there is a detail that’s amiss, be assured that I WILL tell you about it.

DEVELOPMENTAL EDITING
A developmental edit is an EXTENSIVE and in-depth edit of your entire manuscript. This term has been very confusing for inexperienced writers since it includes several different types of editing, but it’s also a type of editing in its own right. It has a profound analysis of:
- Single words,
- The phrasing of individual sentences,
- Structure,
- Style,
- Plot holes,
- Problematic characterization,
- Pace,
- Everything else you can imagine.
Have in mind that after an entire round of developmental edit, a manuscript can change substantially, and, sometimes, that can be really tough for inexperienced writers. Why? Because a lot of what you have spent a considerable amount of time writing can be cut, shaped, moved, or heavily criticized (or all of the above at the same time).
Good developmental editing will also consider your target audience and will commercially judge your work. Only once your manuscript has been cut, reshaped, revised, and developed will it be ready for a copy edit and proofread.

LINE EDITING
While copy editing is more about the mechanics of a book, line editing is about WRITING as a whole. What do I mean?
- Creative content
- Writing Style
- Language in the sentence and paragraph level
So, Line Edit exists to improve your prose, line by line (this is why it is called Line edit) to perfect your manuscript’s clarity and style (this is why it is also called Stylistic Editing).
What can you expect from a Line Edit?
- Shifts in the tone,
- Phrasing that is written unnaturally (This often happens with writers that have English as a second language),
- Passages that don’t read well due to bland language use,
- Dialogue or paragraphs that can be tightened,
- Confusing narrative digressions,
- Words or sentences that are extraneous or overused,
- Redundancies from repeating the same information in different ways,
- Run-on sentences,
- Scenes where the action is confusing or the author’s meaning is unclear due to bad transitions,
- Changes that can be made to improve the pacing of a passage,
- Words or phrases that may clarify or enhance your meaning.

COPY EDITING
Quoting Wikipedia “Copy editing (also copyediting) is the process of revising written material to improve readability and fitness for its purpose, as well as ensuring that it is free of grammatical and factual errors.”
So, what can you expect from a copyedit?
- Grammar,
- Spelling,
- Style,
- Punctuation issues.
All of that is done BEFORE your manuscript is prepared for proofreading.
Please have in mind that a copy editor may also do a rewrite, if necessary, to fix problems related to
- Transitions,
- Wordiness,
- Jargon,
- To ensure the style of the piece fits with the publication.

PROOFREADING
Proofreading is THE LAST STEP before the book goes out to the public, so the Proofreader will receive the final manuscript when it has gone through all the edits and beta-reading. The file should be well organized, well written, and easy to understand. In a few words: you send your manuscript to a proofreader to ensure consistency and accuracy in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting.
What can you expect a proofreader to fix?
- Subject-verb agreement problems,
- Incorrect word choices,
- Improper punctuation usage,
- Incorrect spelling,
- Formatting and typographical errors,
- They make sure the document adheres to the chosen style guide.
READINGS
SENSITIVE READING
Sensitivity readers are a subgroup of Beta readers that specialize in a particular niche (cultural, medical, etcetera) to spot cultural inaccuracies, representation issues, bias, stereotypes, or problematic language.
What are MY fields within the sensitivity readers?
- Medical Field: If some of your characters have a unique medical condition, or you are describing the medical world within your story. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery, so be assured that I will help you with the development of diseases, how medical procedures are made, and everything you can imagine that it is medical-related.
- Latino Culture: I’m Venezuelan, and I’ve had the privilege of living in a couple of Latin-American countries besides my own. The countries that I specialize in are:
- Venezuela,
- Colombia,
- Mexico,
- Brazil,
- Argentina,
- Ecuador
What can I help you with?
- Gangs and their dynamics,
- Slangs,
- Family dynamic,
- Names and surnames,
Differentiation according to the region: Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil, all of the Latin-American countries have specific characteristics and, sometimes just because they are Latino, people tend to describe them as the same… And they are NOT.
